Your Event Page Needs an Image Makeover

They say that a picture is worth a thousand words. But when it comes to convincing people to buy a ticket online, we think it’s even more valuable than that.

An image is a great, fast way for people to know what your event is all about.
We could talk about this ad nauseum, but instead, we thought we’d show you a few pictures instead. See what we did there??

For example, if I say to you, “come to my event, it’s in a parking lot, but we’re going to put some chairs out there and it’ll be real cool.” Would you register right away? I mean, probably not. But look how this photo totally sets the mood! I saw this and immediately wanted to go.

Your picture doesn’t need to be a image of the event though. Check out this hero image from Philadelphia’s super cool ice cream company, Little Baby’s Ice Cream. It shows off some delicious ice cream, and also shows how quirky the company is.

Another idea – if you have a recognizable speaker coming, put them front and center on your event page.

You’re convinced, but wait! You need to figure out how to get a great image and you’re not a photographer or a particularly designer-y person. WHAT DO YOU DO?

If there’s one thing you take away from this video, it’s to please stop using the PDF flyer that someone made for print. Seriously, they’re hideous.

Instead, start by coming up with a few adjectives of how you’d like people to feel at your event. Then use these to find a great stock photo. Bob’s top 3 choices for finding stock photos are The Stocks, Snapwi.re, and Stocksy.

You can also contact that venue or the speaker and ask them for a photo. If you can’t find a photo to work, you can always just set up a mini photo-shoot with your smart phone.
Once you’ve got an image that will work, it’s easy to get it looking perfect with free, photo editing tools. Our customer success team always uses Pixlr, but try a few out and see which one you like the best.

    Love your site, Leslie! I also found it helpful to use pixlr when I did an event series – I found an image I liked and just changed the filter on the image to make it look the-same-but-different for multiple event pages.
